At the Tressa Nese and Helen Diskevich Center of Geriatric Nursing Excellence (CGNE), we believe every older adult deserves the highest quality of evidence-based care and well-being that respects their individual goals and preferences.  

Aging, caregiving, and the privilege of growing older impact us all. Join us on the care journey.

We are an interdisciplinary community of clinicians, educators, scientists, and learners whose leadership involves actively improving health care and quality of life for all older adults. 

Our work includes:  

  • preparing geriatric nurses and nurse leaders for the future  
  • offering educational opportunities for healthcare professionals, care partners, and families  
  • conducting cutting-edge research and translational projects with local, state, and global impact  
  • developing collaborative partnerships and leading community service initiatives

Vision, Mission, Pillars, and Strategic Plan

We are guided by a vision and four strategic pillars that provide a framework for all that we do to improve the lives and care of all older adults and develop nurse leaders.

Educational Excellence: Developing and implementing innovative nursing and interprofessional education in gerontology to better prepare nurses and improve interdisciplinary approaches to care.  

Scientific Research: Supporting and conducting studies to advance science in the health and care of older adults with an emphasis on an age-friendly and person-centered care model of health care delivery.  

Translation of Best Practice: Applying and disseminating evidence-based clinical practices into the continuum of care for older adults to improve health and quality-of-life outcomes.  

Service and Strategic Partnerships: Establishing community and clinical partnerships to better implement and sustain our vision, mission, and goals.
